Huge Haul. City center and GVK. Makeup, school supplies, shoes, books

I have a headache, I am having cold, hence a heavy head. But today was shoppCAM01862ing day. Some important things to purchase, some crazy indulges. All in all, I am surprised at my capability to spend so much in one day. I feel good. No more shopping for me for at-least a six months. Lets get started, I shall go in the order of my shops. I mainly hit City center and GVK One today (in that order)

First stop Fooba Wooba

We’re having some weddings lined up from the coming week. Batool desperately needed some part footwear. This one is golden, the camera isn’t doing justice to the glamorous look of the shoe. But I love it.

Second stop SivaShakti Garments (that’s what it says on the bill) I’m sure the names catchier than that!

Got these posters, they had a great collection, good quality. You can hang or stick them. Rs.80 a piece, not bad at all for the quality and content. There is print on both sides, which is fabulous it’s like getting two posters in one. And it’s super thick glazed quality, which means it won’t rip off!

Water bottle (2 months into school and she already broke hers) and milk bottle

This one has a twist opening and a straw. As you can see, the daughter was already too eager to start using it. So I poured her some milk.

last at this shop was a towel for her school snack bag. Got Yellow as it matches her lunch bad.

Third stop, Max. I was looking for a silver shoe for Batool (again for them weddings). Didn’t find one but got myself a top/Kurti (sneaky me). And also a pack of socks for the hubby (nothing interesting so no images!)

I loved the colour mainly, and that it has buttons going down all the way, it’s bright but not crazy. Max had a lot of florescent colours in their Indian wear-too loud for my taste. Plan to wear this to school soon.

Fourth stop Crosswords. How can a trip to city center be complete without a browse through at crosswords. I was mainly looking for a water bottle for myself. This one is simple, and big enough to keep me hydrated through the school day.

I picked up two books for my friends son, as a gift for Eid. But then I can’t help myself so I went ahead and got Batool two books as well . This Dictionary is amazing, I’ve been wanting something like this for a while now. It was only for Rs.300. It is hardcover with thick good quality pages and lovely images and descriptions. Beyond satisfied!

Also picked up a book from the Bruno series, this purchase leaves Batool with only one unowned. I think I’ll buy it on Flipkart.

I also got myself this reading light which i desperately need. I am unable to read at night because of the absence of light. Batool is fast asleep by 10 it’s the best time for to read. It clips to your book or e-reader and illuminates without causing trouble to people around. It was available in blue and white I think, but I got girlie in this purchase hehe. This baby was for Rs.700. I have to admit, I’ve never noticed these type of things anywhere else. Crosswords stocks good products.

Fifth stop Health and Glow. Here is where I went a little too crazy I was only looking for three nail polishes from the Maybelline ‘Glitter Mania’ Collection, an eyelash curler, nail polish remover, and the Lame Absolute bronzer. I got only one of the three nail polishes but also picked up three other random ones, an eye liner and a concealer. The Lakme Absolute bronzer is history apparently, and they didn’t have any other bronzer in the whole of Health and Glow. What a shame.

The red one in the center is the one I wanted and got at Health and Glow. Other two I picked up from GVK. Didn’t really have a concealer on my list but got one. I don’t own one currently, and my dark circles are crying for one.

I will review this in the coming week. Will also do swatches of the Maybelline nail polishes in detail.

Sixth stop Me n Moms, now I was about to leave, was getting tired from the cold and running around, also the excitement of shopping so much was making me crazy. But my gut was saying ‘Syeda just check out Me n Moms’ and so I did and the result; unreasonably expensive shoes for the daughter. Was I relieved that I had that under control? Hell Yes!

I then headed out, called my mom to get a status on my daughter and after getting the soothing news of her safe and happy state I thought let’s head to GVK and strike off all that’s on my shopping list (believe me there was more).

GVK I entered like a mother on a mission, up the stairs and took the right directly into Shoppers Stop. Headed to the Maybelline counter to get my other two nail polishes, got them!, went over to Lakme and again heard that the bronzer has been discontinued. Asked at Bourjois for bronzer, all they had weren’t matte. Moved on to The Body Shop, their honey bronzer was too light. I am glad I didn’t get sucked into buying that. The sales girl however took me to the Givenchy counter, to which I said no! I am not going to buy make-up for hobby from Givenchy! I eventually arrived at the Shiseido counter, and when she said the bronzer costed 2k I told her that’s too much for someone like me. Sicilia the lovely lady who at the counter insisted on a light application and I fell in love. I thought heck! It’s going to last me a life time. She too said that it was like an investment, good quality, won’t expire for another 3 years. So I bought it. And I don’t regret it.

Shall do a review with swatches on this later. I tried it at home too, it’s lovely, super easy to apply, especially for me- My first time playing with a bronzer you see. Note worthy point here is that Sicilia had applied the BB cream on my whole face prior to the bronzer application. And my skin felt amazing. I’ve noticed a difference in my skin, even though she cleaned it all off. I am making a mental note to explore more from the brand. I’ve only owned their matte lipstick till date.

Ending the ramble and moving on I got my face cleaned, picked up a pair of sandals from Haute Curry and ran out to come back home. Mind you they were on sale, got them for Rs.800. Note! they were cheaper than Batools! I was actually looking for shoes in gold, but by the time I got to the shoe section I thought ‘chuck it’ it’s only going to be used for weddings and I don’t attend many, so no point being picky and choosy and paying too much. Plus I was already exhausted with the pricing on Batools shoes, I just thought the cheapest would do!.

This day has ended with me feeling extremely worldly. I went over board no doubt. The online shopping thing is also being a buzz for me. I have to stop shopping period. I believe it’s a phase, a phase in which I haven’t been in for a very long time (In Dubai I went crazy which was almost 2 years ago). And I guess it’s fine to just let go once in a while. Excuses Excuses!

Have you been hauling lately? Any recommendations from Shiseido?

Biotique Review

I am not the trendiest when it comes to make up simply because I hardly use it. I have however CAM01785been trying to get into skincare. I am hooked on to many of the non-Indian YouTube beauty  gurus. And they constantly talk about products that aren’t available here or are unreasonably priced. It’s very annoying I must say, so I decided to move into what is possible and explore Indian brands. That’s when I first ventured into Biotique, reasonably priced products, large variety, and they do the job (at-least the ones I’ve tried so far). I even went ahead and gifted one of their products to a dear friend.

I am more than happy with the brand (had an initial repulsion to the colour, but it helps the products stand out in your stash) and continue to pursue buying their products. My number one concern was how it would smell, herbal products tend to have the typical smell but not with Biotique. There’s no artificial scent, but you can smell the ingredients, the fruit etc.

Here’s what I’ve tried:

1. Bio Seaweed revitalising anti-fatigue gel (25gms MRP199)

 CAM01786  CAM01795 CAM01796

This was my first purchase out of desperate need, my felt tired after hours of work on the PC and staying up at night passing time on the tablet. This really works, I tend to use it as a quick wake up for my eyes. It really helps with the tired eyes. You can see from the picture I’ve used up a good deal of this, even though I don’t use it on an everyday basis.

The product itself is transparent, and dries off fast. Its a must try porduct for anyone who uses the computer on an everyday basis.

Verdict: 5 STARS

2. Bio Papaya smoothing and revitalising scrub (85gms, MRP 199)

CAM01790 CAM01798

This came into my life when I was way too impressed to not explore. I had to buy a scrub for my face, the skin was acting up with dry patches and what not. It smells delicious. I found it a little harsh for my skin, sort of dried it out. I didn’t like the overall results. considering the price and quantity, it’s a good product to have in your collection, definitely worth a shot to see how it works for your skin. I do plan to use it all up, the husband loved it. I thought scrubs would leave the skin super supple and soft, but I needed to intensely moisturize my skin afterwards. It does the job at exfoliating though, I have a combination skin with an oily T-zone, and it did great cleaning out the open pores there, but dried up my cheeks.

Verdict: 3.5 STARS

3. Bio Almond soothing and nourishing cream (16gms MRP 199)

CAM01787  CAM01794

Another love. This thing is magic, clears out those dark circles like no ones business. It’s light, white in colour and dries fast after application. My under eye skin needed nourishment, I felt like a grandmother, I deal with my eye area pretty roughly. So I thought I need help, and yes I did! I have noticed a drastic change in my under eye skin, it feels healthier, thicker (if it makes sense), stronger and just young! Highly recommend it. Do be very careful with this though, even the tiniest amount will sting your eye, so make sure your eye doesn’t come in contact at all.

Verdict: 5 STARS

4. Bio Mud ageless firming and revitalising face pack (85gms MRP199)

CAM01788  CAM01797

You will feel the tingle, you will smell the minty scent, you will feel amazing. This is great, does the trick and I really like it. The only issue I had with it was again the drying of the skin post use. This could also be because I am not a religious moisturiser user. But I like it, may even repurchase it.

Verdict: 4 STARS

Biotique products have therapeutic properties, they’re not meant for cosmetic use. This is what they state on each tub. The best feature is that you can use each of these products everyday if wanted. You won’t have to refrain from them because few days haven’t passed, they’re not meant to be harsh on the skin. I really like the range, very practical for Indian consumers, priced reasonably and available too. They have plenty more products that I haven’t tried, but definitely will explore.

Have you tried anything from this brand? What has been your experience like? a nightmare.

I’ve been having really bad online shopping experiences lately. To the point where I have sworn off shopping online except from Flipkart.

There are some things I really hate in life, laziness and unprofessional services are two of them. I’ve decided to only buy what I must and not bother otherwise. Getting out of the house, spending money on travel, running around shops is more convenient than waiting for a website to make a delivery. Shopping isn’t meant to be a frustrating task, when you’re spending hard earned money you don’t want to wait around till someone elses like to have them delivered. And most of all you want them all delivered at the same bloody time!.

I will only make an exception for Flipkart, they keep you in the loop of delivery from the moment you place the order. I find them very trust worthy. And they always deliver before time. Yes the items arrive separately, but they ARRIVE!

I am especially pissed off at They’ve just taken bad service to another level, it’s been a month. And their online tracking system is totally out of whack. The items go into ‘processing’ status and then back to ‘delayed’. I don’t know what their deal is. I have been getting 5% off coupon codes apologising for the delay, listen up!!! IT’S NOT TEMPTING ME! Why would I place an order at a website that hasn’t delivered my previous order? Why should I bother to attain the 5% discount in exchange of more stress!!

DISGUSTING. Called the customer care line, which isn’t toll free, and no customer care exec. was free to take the call, well, of course they aren’t! they’re deep in the hell hole called trying to calm down customers like me.

What’s really sad is that there are genuine people like me who trust the website, go for prepaid shopping, and still get delayed. I’ve shopped at purplle before, this has never happened before. They don’t give proper information on delivery time, but never delayed it to a month. I’ve just had it with them. Never going to bother with this website. Maybe their trick is to ship orders that are COD first. Whatever happened to customer satisfaction.

BTW they’ve completely re-designed the website, maybe if they would invest in their actual job of delivering the products I’d be interested. Pathetic. Completely pathetic. Lets see if they bother to reply back to my e-mail with a decent idea.

Online shopping in Hyderabad

Shopping, yes, we women love it. But getting your ass out of the house with a child, or even without the child is a big issue. At-least for me it is. Malls in Hyderabad are not children friendly, no diaper changing tables, no feeding chairs, nothing. It’s almost like the malls want the moms to stay at home or get out sans child.

In my case, I live in the dear old city, everything is FAR away, and my daughter loves shopping but half way through our ride she’s exhausted and wants to get out of the car, and by the time you reach your shopping destination you have a cranky little person with you. I have had my very frustrating days, I like to get my daughter used to a certain lifestyle, so that she knows how to act and react in public. So far it has worked, but when it comes to shopping for myself, I prefer the peace of my mind, and the luxury to look around before buying anything.

In comes the online shopping to rescue my sadness. I have tried a couple of websites for various products, not just for myself but my daughter and husband. Recently I’ve been on a shopping fit. I am treating myself to holiday, and also returning myself for all the hard-work I put in last academic year of both my Sunday school and volunteer work at Focus High School. Lets start shall we?

1. Shoppers stop– This was my first online purchase, and it was a bag from FCUK. And since I was an amateur I opted for COD. They do a good job. Since then I haven’t made a purchase but have my wishlist filled with items. I browse through the website pretty regularly.

What I like: There’s a lot of variety on this website. Especially in the household category.

2. Flipkart– This is my holy grail for books. I’ve bought a tablet and other electronic items too. But hands down Flipkart has the best selection of books, even crosswords online website doesn’t have the books that Flipkart does. From fiction to non-fiction, to reference you name it and they have it. I’ve bought books for my daughter from flipkart and many of my psychology text books. Also shopped for stationery like files and notebooks from here. They have brands that are otherwise not available here in Hyderabad. I purchased a fun notebook for myself, and a present for a lovely friend from there. Will do a post on that later.

What I like: They have offers, and the notification, tracking of order and website is very organised. It makes it super reliable. Ive tried COD and pre-paid with Flipkart and have been more than satisfied. The packaging is very safe and prices are good.

My issue: Because Flipkart is mainly the portal that brings together various sellers, you are very much likely to receive each product on your order separately. Secondly, if the sellers are different the shipping charges are based on each seller not your whole order. So basically you may end up paying more, and have the deliveries going on for weeks, this can be annoying if you’re not at the shipping address all the time, it may also bug the person collecting the order at home. It psychologically makes you feel you shopped for more than you did. It can get border line annoying.

3. Purplle– Beautuy haven. I have shopped more than a couple of times and it’s my go to website to search for products not found in stores here. There are many brands that are affordable and do a great job, but just haven’t reached the Hyderabadi or even Indian market yet. Loving purplle for that. The website is very user friendly.

What I like: The enormous variety and constant offers. The packaging is sturdy and you have both prepaid and COD options. However I have always opted for the former.

My issue: Tracking your order. You have no information regarding the delivery time in the product description. Not only that after you’ve paid for the order you will not know when you will receive it, their order modification option is crappy, and updates are a joke. They recently added a little more direction on their website for tracing order but it’s still not satisfactory. Shipping the same order separately is just annoying. When I place an order for a few products the excitement is to get ALL of them together. That’s what gets me excited. the quantity.

What I like- I am a youtube junkie, so if I hear a beauty guru talk about a product and I know it’s a never heard brand in India I simply log on to purplle they will most probably have it. Their cart is very manageable and easy to check products on and delete them. I enjoy the shopping part because of the variety, even though more would always be appreciated.

Refer my new post on hating Purplle.

4. Jabong– I placed my first order with Jabong a week or two ago. And while I like the range of the products they provide I mainly liked the prices as compared to purplle. I only made cosmetics purchase a post on that coming soon. But they didn’t have one of my orders and it was constant sms alerts and emails regarding the issue. I wasn’t happy. The whole excitement of shopping just goes away.

My issue: The Javas service was crappy, the delivery guys spoke like animals and weren’t professional. My order got broken down into 4 pieces when I only ordered for 5 items. That’s annoying.

What I like: Compared to purplle for my recent purchase Ive noticed better prices and products. I was looking for a specific product and couldn’t find it at purplle. So had to shift the whole order to jabong just to get it together from one website. They recently added the Dorothy Perkins brand to their website which I am crazy exited about.

5. Mango–  This brand has the most lovely on trend products. And since the GVK One store has stopped stalking a lot of the accessories I was very exited to make a purchase from here. The website is inspirational to browse through.

My issue: No COD or Debit card payments, only credit card payments are accepted. That’s a BIG issue. And delivery charges are only exempted on a purchase of 6500 or above. That’s not a small amount. I can imagine young college girls saving up money to buy from Mango, they should lower it to improve sales.

What I like- well the products, the way they are packaged and sent, it’s all impressive. The sales on the website are insane!! I actually recommend to wait till sales but act fast as soon as they’re on, because those things fly off! Mango sales are the best.

6. Snapdeal– My husband had made an electronic purchase from here and well that’s about it. Not much to say, i was satisfied, it was a COD purchase and everything arrived safely and on time. I haven’t ever browsed through the website myself but do plan to.

7. Bigbasket– Basically delivering groceries to your door. In old city you definitely need this. Esepcially since the humble more store near my place got shut down, this has been a life saver.

My issue: I have always opted for COD with bigbasket, because it’s grocery, and there are major chances of a screw-up because these people deliver massive amounts of groceries to people in their trucks. And once and only once they had missed one of the items on the list and didn’t take the payment for it. So I was glad that I hadn’t paid in advance. I recommend COD for bigbasket unless someone else is going to receive the order. I also highly recommend going through the delivery religiously, the delivery guys are human they may miss something, but you don’t want messed up groceries!.

What I like- It’s got a decent variety. I really like the option of poultry and meat that is halaal, very important. Also the delivery charges are only Rs.50, very practical for the genre of products. You can select your time slots which is a very wise option to have especially if everyone at home works.

There are other websites that I have my eyes on like forever new, Zara, fab furnish, babyoye, etc. for various reasons and products.

I will be putting up a post on a collective haul, the stuff I’ve been purchasing over a couple of months but have been lazy to post right away. Also I am waiting on delivery on some orders.
