Friday Funday and new years plans

Last Friday I took a much needed break and met my friend to hang out. Made some discoveries, had a great time and working on plans for the coming new year.

Lets first talk about the hype that is Starbucks, I am not a tea/coffee drinker, but it sounded like a fine idea to just start the day chilling, so we went to Starbucks, and I only ordered the brownie, been dreaming of a nice brownie since I’ve been working out and cutting out all candy and chocolates.

CAM02535CAM02536

I tried to take a funny pic and I did a great job at it, forgot to take an OOTD pic, my bad, this always happens. Notice the empty plate! hehe, they served the brownie with whipped cream and chocolate chips (this is an additional BTW), I didn’t enjoy it. Ice-cream and warm brownies are a match made in heaven. The chocolate chips were divine, I liked that there were no nuts in the brownie. But I guess I shouldn’t expect much from a coffee place.

CAM02538

Here’s what I was wearing:CAM02534

1. Blazer and leggings-Mango

2. Button down dress– AND (Global Desi)

3. Shoes- Splosh

4. Nails- OPI glitter nail polish, and Max Factor top coat

CAM02533

We headed to GVK after that and discovered Marks and Spencer at the lower floor! How amazing, I don’t like the clothes there, but it was nice to have MandS close by now as apposed to the tiny jubilee hills one or the one at Inorbit Mall.

I am not a new year resolutions typa gal, I do however make lists of achievement or goals for the new year. And this time I am going to big time join the organised note making gang. I even bought myself a 2015 diary!

Shopping and book update

I went out, a very deserving outing alone…My friend wasn’t available as well, so I just had to hang out and chill away from the daughter. And well, I ended up spending. Has a few things on the list but got carried away…Lets dig in shall we?

I was at city center, and wanted to get a drum for the little one, she didn’t get the concept of it while doing homework the weekend before, So i thought she needs to experience it, even though it would cause great noise pollution. Picked it up at the toy store there.

CAM02039

CAM02045

Also picked up two white hair bands, a lunch box she’s broken hers, and also broker her water bottle, that’s second one this school year already!

Next stop Max, the daughter has suddenly grown tall, and needed a little addition to the wardrobe

CAM02033 CAM02034 CAM02036

The green sleeveless hoodie is reversible! This is her first pair of jeans, loved the tiny print detail and the colour I was crossing my fingers they’d fit and they did, wonderfully…

Dropped by health and glow, had a very strict list on here, but I also sneakily picked up a new body bath/scrub and a bubble bath for Batool from Baby Biotique. Frankly I didn’t know Baby Biotique existed!!The surprise comes from the fact that I do enjoy using the Biotique products myself. I haven’t tried it yet, still have a little bit left from the MEE MEE one. Will do a comparison post on them when I do try.

CAM02062

The scrub however is phenomenal! Yummy! smells like the first lip gloss I owned when I was in school it was called ‘wet lips’..Yum Yum….

CAM02060

Got myself a key chain by daffodils from Crosswords, picked up a cheap water bottle for the daughter who is rowdy!

CAM02028

Coming to my book I placed an order on flipkart for few things, and one of them was my book!! ‘On Dublin street’ by Samantha Young…It’s an adult romance novel, but with a proper story, and an ending, 300 odd pages finished it in 2 nights….Great read, easy, refreshing, nice. I would love to see it as a movie, with the right screenplay and cast this movie will be a great one for sure.

CAM02029

I’ve decided to try out Indian authors, and hence I have ordered ‘Sorry, you’re not my type‘ by Sudeep Nagarkar, it’s cheap 150 but Flipkarts having a discount on it (Unlike Dublin street which costed 950 nucks!!) and sounds like a fine book. I’ve per-ordered Chetan Bhagats new book ‘Half girlfriend’ as well.

I also ordered a reference book, I am having a growing inclination toward learning disabilities even though I wouldn’t dare tread that path as career, it would help me understand it better, explain it better to parents/caregivers/teachers/students etc. and also for my present diploma.

CAM02030

It’s by Meenakshi Dave and I highly recommend it to Indian parents.

Also on the flipkart order was my daughter book ‘Bruno put your toys away’, already have the rest of the books from the series, she desperately wanted it, asked me several times and I couldn’t find it at crosswords, so paid double the price because of shipping and bought it.

bruno put your toys away

I am trying to get her TV time limited, even though she doesn’t watch any cartoons, we don’t have cable, we just download selected rhymes and make CDs for her. I have to get it down to 1 hour a day with a min half gap in between. So inorder to do that I have increased book time, now we have two sessions and we go through the charts I had blogged about previously. She’s enjoying the attention too, in the spirit of entertainment sans TV I ordered a finger painting set in the flipkart order…It arrived today evening, and well she enjoyed a lot and it got messy but it took a good 45 mins off the day, and the paints almost are over, Im going to buy more paint….

CAM02055 CAM02057

As you can see, it comes with shaped sponges, tiniest pots of paint, few plain white sheets and few images to paint. For 210 plus 40 shipping I don’t recommend it, you can just buy a box of paint and give them to your child to finger paint. Nothing special in the box, a great gift though, if you have a birthday to attend want to budget it under 500! It’s not worth it otherwise.

Well that’s about it….purchased two pairs of shoes online as well…

Haven t taken a pic of the other one 😉 oops! Will note it in an outfit post….Need to get those done more often….What have you been upto?

Maybelline Glitter Mania nail polish review

I have been obsessed with the Zoya Pixie dust nail polishes since months, been searching for them online but they’re too pricy for a nail polish, but boy do they make my mouth water. I was browsing online (as usual) on Nykaa, and found the Maybelline dupes of the pixie dust!, they’re called the Glitter mania, it’s in continuation of their Color Show range, the product quantity is less, and so is the price, I simply love that. I have never known anyone who actually finished a pot of nail polish (unless you only owned one). What did I do? I just bought them on Nykaa, went through the collection, saw swatches online and bought 5 of the 8 polishes just like that. I was so excited, and even more crazy when I received them. I then bought the rest, simply because.

CAM01827 CAM01829

CAM01889 CAM01832

I liked some while the others not so much, I do like the consistency, the colour range is varied, great idea for the first launch. The glitter is great for nail art, weddings, or if you’re like me and CAM01911want your nails to bring up your mood. What girl doesn’t like glitter! The end result is matte, application is super easy, as it dries textured, you just can’t mess up the finish. The only issue I had was the colour of some totally was invisible, and the contrast glitter shined too much. I wouldn’t dare with a second coat, it’s just not necessary, also taking such nail polishes is a PAIN, requires a good deal of remover. I did the trick used to remove dark nail colours, you keep the cotton on the nail for min15 seconds and then wipe, that way most of the nail polish comes off in one go, otherwise the cotton shreds get stuck onto the texture, and it’s all a bloody nightmare. I shall leave you swatches (ENJOY):

I do wish they launch more in the range, I had difficulty picking them up too, they’re getting sold out very fast. The glitter is great for nail art, weddings, or if you’re like me and want your nails to bring up your mood. What girl doesn’t like glitter! These (below) Zoya colours are yummy! I love the latter purple shade it’s my favourite colour. Maybelline should add that shade and an emerald green for sure, an electric/navy blue, that would be amazing..

I recommend everyone to buy these, they’re cheap for only RS.125 they’re fab. They are great at hiding bad nails, they’re very opaque too so you can’t layer them on a regular nail polish. These are stand alone polishes, that will do the job.

Did you try any of these? I have been late on the Glitter mania band wagon, but I am happy that I discovered them 🙂

Huge Haul. City center and GVK. Makeup, school supplies, shoes, books

I have a headache, I am having cold, hence a heavy head. But today was shoppCAM01862ing day. Some important things to purchase, some crazy indulges. All in all, I am surprised at my capability to spend so much in one day. I feel good. No more shopping for me for at-least a six months. Lets get started, I shall go in the order of my shops. I mainly hit City center and GVK One today (in that order)

First stop Fooba Wooba

We’re having some weddings lined up from the coming week. Batool desperately needed some part footwear. This one is golden, the camera isn’t doing justice to the glamorous look of the shoe. But I love it.

CAM01893

Second stop SivaShakti Garments (that’s what it says on the bill) I’m sure the names catchier than that!

Got these posters, they had a great collection, good quality. You can hang or stick them. Rs.80 a piece, not bad at all for the quality and content. There is print on both sides, which is fabulous it’s like getting two posters in one. And it’s super thick glazed quality, which means it won’t rip off!

CAM01916

CAM01917

CAM01914CAM01915

Water bottle (2 months into school and she already broke hers) and milk bottle

CAM01906

CAM01904

This one has a twist opening and a straw. As you can see, the daughter was already too eager to start using it. So I poured her some milk.

last at this shop was a towel for her school snack bag. Got Yellow as it matches her lunch bad.

CAM01910

Third stop, Max. I was looking for a silver shoe for Batool (again for them weddings). Didn’t find one but got myself a top/Kurti (sneaky me). And also a pack of socks for the hubby (nothing interesting so no images!)

CAM01918

I loved the colour mainly, and that it has buttons going down all the way, it’s bright but not crazy. Max had a lot of florescent colours in their Indian wear-too loud for my taste. Plan to wear this to school soon.

Fourth stop Crosswords. How can a trip to city center be complete without a browse through at crosswords. I was mainly looking for a water bottle for myself. This one is simple, and big enough to keep me hydrated through the school day.

CAM01907

I picked up two books for my friends son, as a gift for Eid. But then I can’t help myself so I went ahead and got Batool two books as well . This Dictionary is amazing, I’ve been wanting something like this for a while now. It was only for Rs.300. It is hardcover with thick good quality pages and lovely images and descriptions. Beyond satisfied!

CAM01902

CAM01897

Also picked up a book from the Bruno series, this purchase leaves Batool with only one unowned. I think I’ll buy it on Flipkart.

CAM01903

I also got myself this reading light which i desperately need. I am unable to read at night because of the absence of light. Batool is fast asleep by 10 it’s the best time for to read. It clips to your book or e-reader and illuminates without causing trouble to people around. It was available in blue and white I think, but I got girlie in this purchase hehe. This baby was for Rs.700. I have to admit, I’ve never noticed these type of things anywhere else. Crosswords stocks good products.

CAM01919

Fifth stop Health and Glow. Here is where I went a little too crazy I was only looking for three nail polishes from the Maybelline ‘Glitter Mania’ Collection, an eyelash curler, nail polish remover, and the Lame Absolute bronzer. I got only one of the three nail polishes but also picked up three other random ones, an eye liner and a concealer. The Lakme Absolute bronzer is history apparently, and they didn’t have any other bronzer in the whole of Health and Glow. What a shame.

CAM01912

CAM01887

CAM01891

CAM01890

CAM01889

The red one in the center is the one I wanted and got at Health and Glow. Other two I picked up from GVK. Didn’t really have a concealer on my list but got one. I don’t own one currently, and my dark circles are crying for one.

CAM01869CAM01872

CAM01873

I will review this in the coming week. Will also do swatches of the Maybelline nail polishes in detail.

Sixth stop Me n Moms, now I was about to leave, was getting tired from the cold and running around, also the excitement of shopping so much was making me crazy. But my gut was saying ‘Syeda just check out Me n Moms’ and so I did and the result; unreasonably expensive shoes for the daughter. Was I relieved that I had that under control? Hell Yes!

CAM01894

I then headed out, called my mom to get a status on my daughter and after getting the soothing news of her safe and happy state I thought let’s head to GVK and strike off all that’s on my shopping list (believe me there was more).

GVK I entered like a mother on a mission, up the stairs and took the right directly into Shoppers Stop. Headed to the Maybelline counter to get my other two nail polishes, got them!, went over to Lakme and again heard that the bronzer has been discontinued. Asked at Bourjois for bronzer, all they had weren’t matte. Moved on to The Body Shop, their honey bronzer was too light. I am glad I didn’t get sucked into buying that. The sales girl however took me to the Givenchy counter, to which I said no! I am not going to buy make-up for hobby from Givenchy! I eventually arrived at the Shiseido counter, and when she said the bronzer costed 2k I told her that’s too much for someone like me. Sicilia the lovely lady who at the counter insisted on a light application and I fell in love. I thought heck! It’s going to last me a life time. She too said that it was like an investment, good quality, won’t expire for another 3 years. So I bought it. And I don’t regret it.

CAM01876

Shall do a review with swatches on this later. I tried it at home too, it’s lovely, super easy to apply, especially for me- My first time playing with a bronzer you see. Note worthy point here is that Sicilia had applied the BB cream on my whole face prior to the bronzer application. And my skin felt amazing. I’ve noticed a difference in my skin, even though she cleaned it all off. I am making a mental note to explore more from the brand. I’ve only owned their matte lipstick till date.

Ending the ramble and moving on I got my face cleaned, picked up a pair of sandals from Haute Curry and ran out to come back home. Mind you they were on sale, got them for Rs.800. Note! they were cheaper than Batools! I was actually looking for shoes in gold, but by the time I got to the shoe section I thought ‘chuck it’ it’s only going to be used for weddings and I don’t attend many, so no point being picky and choosy and paying too much. Plus I was already exhausted with the pricing on Batools shoes, I just thought the cheapest would do!.

CAM01895

This day has ended with me feeling extremely worldly. I went over board no doubt. The online shopping thing is also being a buzz for me. I have to stop shopping period. I believe it’s a phase, a phase in which I haven’t been in for a very long time (In Dubai I went crazy which was almost 2 years ago). And I guess it’s fine to just let go once in a while. Excuses Excuses!

Have you been hauling lately? Any recommendations from Shiseido?

Biotique Review

I am not the trendiest when it comes to make up simply because I hardly use it. I have however CAM01785been trying to get into skincare. I am hooked on to many of the non-Indian YouTube beauty  gurus. And they constantly talk about products that aren’t available here or are unreasonably priced. It’s very annoying I must say, so I decided to move into what is possible and explore Indian brands. That’s when I first ventured into Biotique, reasonably priced products, large variety, and they do the job (at-least the ones I’ve tried so far). I even went ahead and gifted one of their products to a dear friend.

I am more than happy with the brand (had an initial repulsion to the colour, but it helps the products stand out in your stash) and continue to pursue buying their products. My number one concern was how it would smell, herbal products tend to have the typical smell but not with Biotique. There’s no artificial scent, but you can smell the ingredients, the fruit etc.

Here’s what I’ve tried:

1. Bio Seaweed revitalising anti-fatigue gel (25gms MRP199)

 CAM01786  CAM01795 CAM01796

This was my first purchase out of desperate need, my felt tired after hours of work on the PC and staying up at night passing time on the tablet. This really works, I tend to use it as a quick wake up for my eyes. It really helps with the tired eyes. You can see from the picture I’ve used up a good deal of this, even though I don’t use it on an everyday basis.

The product itself is transparent, and dries off fast. Its a must try porduct for anyone who uses the computer on an everyday basis.

Verdict: 5 STARS

2. Bio Papaya smoothing and revitalising scrub (85gms, MRP 199)

CAM01790 CAM01798

This came into my life when I was way too impressed to not explore. I had to buy a scrub for my face, the skin was acting up with dry patches and what not. It smells delicious. I found it a little harsh for my skin, sort of dried it out. I didn’t like the overall results. considering the price and quantity, it’s a good product to have in your collection, definitely worth a shot to see how it works for your skin. I do plan to use it all up, the husband loved it. I thought scrubs would leave the skin super supple and soft, but I needed to intensely moisturize my skin afterwards. It does the job at exfoliating though, I have a combination skin with an oily T-zone, and it did great cleaning out the open pores there, but dried up my cheeks.

Verdict: 3.5 STARS

3. Bio Almond soothing and nourishing cream (16gms MRP 199)

CAM01787  CAM01794

Another love. This thing is magic, clears out those dark circles like no ones business. It’s light, white in colour and dries fast after application. My under eye skin needed nourishment, I felt like a grandmother, I deal with my eye area pretty roughly. So I thought I need help, and yes I did! I have noticed a drastic change in my under eye skin, it feels healthier, thicker (if it makes sense), stronger and just young! Highly recommend it. Do be very careful with this though, even the tiniest amount will sting your eye, so make sure your eye doesn’t come in contact at all.

Verdict: 5 STARS

4. Bio Mud ageless firming and revitalising face pack (85gms MRP199)

CAM01788  CAM01797

You will feel the tingle, you will smell the minty scent, you will feel amazing. This is great, does the trick and I really like it. The only issue I had with it was again the drying of the skin post use. This could also be because I am not a religious moisturiser user. But I like it, may even repurchase it.

Verdict: 4 STARS

Biotique products have therapeutic properties, they’re not meant for cosmetic use. This is what they state on each tub. The best feature is that you can use each of these products everyday if wanted. You won’t have to refrain from them because few days haven’t passed, they’re not meant to be harsh on the skin. I really like the range, very practical for Indian consumers, priced reasonably and available too. They have plenty more products that I haven’t tried, but definitely will explore.

Have you tried anything from this brand? What has been your experience like?
