My week in pictures part 1

So here’s a first of my week in pictures…Basically a quick overview of the week in images…

Sunday14th June hung out with friends, after quite some time went to Via Milano, the food was good, and there was live music, good taste…But I don’t think I can eat there again especially if the music is going on like that. music lovers will enjoy a good Sunday brunch there, very laid back vibe.

Wrote me diary at night and ended with this…I tend to write lyrics, quotes or just my own one liners on a separate page that correlate to my feelings….

Monday I called in sick was feeling weird, upset tummy and a creeping cold….Not a good combination…Tuesday was was a busy busy day at school…

Ignore the missing ‘K’ on my keyboard…it’s the doing of my daughter.

Decorated the counselors board….

Worked on sight words with the daughter…These flashcards are amazing…

Study time for Wednesdays class..

Thursday was my day off, so I did some book organising… I am going to do a book collection post super soon…I promise! I know I said that before, but I took pictures and everything, just have to write the post…This week for sure

Ate mangoes…Fed the daughter mangoes…

Played with the daughter…her tea set is so cute…I love just setting it up…

Got a little off schedule on Fri because the auto guy slept in….The first day of Ramadan…..I should’ve expected..

Went to my paternal aunts place after school….was given a refreshing flower by her granddaughter….It was so fresh…

Been following a strict moisturizing routine at night….Was gifted these products by friends…Loving them both..

Sat was class…..and Sun was madrasa day, getting the teachers together before the new academic year officially begins in July.

Looking forward to another real busy week, Batools school starts Tues! I am going to have no day off this week as I have an appointment on Thurs.

How was your week?

Would you kill the queen to crush the hive?

I work at a school. And one of the best experiences being around young human beings is, you kinda don’t grow up. You are constantly reminded of your adolescence, your childhood, your teenage issues. You are almost forced to be in that phase of your life, reminiscing constantly, some conversations get you nostalgic about your own uniform clad school days.

CAM01338And as a counselor for me it’s all about solving problems, providing clarity, support, unconditional love, a safe environment for children to just let go and express themselves. I think it’s crucial for children to know that there is always going to be someone there for them, through thick and thin. And this someone isn’t always going to be an adult, a good friend can go a long way. When I was in school, there were times of loss of clarity, a feeling of struggle to own your life, take control, choose your own path etc. And this particular song used to describe that feeling. That realisation of not just the struggle, and important of taking control, but the significance support plays in the whole drill.

I listened to music in those days not for the actual music, but lyrics. And this song has powerful lyrics. My personal favourite lines from the song are not in every version of the song.

‘Would you kill the queen to crush the hive?

And would you choose water over wine, hold the wheel and drive?’

The song is written beautifully, and the chorus signifies the importance of being there for your friend (or family, or lover), no matter what decision they make:

Have there been any songs that have had a special relevance to your life growing up?

Dubai vacation.. Update and Highlights 1

Happy New Year mommies!

I have been off the internet for quite some time due to internet issues with my lap top. But now it’s fixed and it’s time for an update.

My flight got delayed royally, it was not fun to be stuck at the airport with a kid who desperately wanted to just land in Dubai. This made the plane journey even more exhausting for me.

Dubai is great, the weather is awesome, for me it’s an experience of mixed emotions. I get slightly depressed just absorbing the goodness of a developed country, a country I was born and raised in. And i definitely can’t help comparing it to the rape nation.

The highlights thus far have been:

1. Being able to get out whenever, and walk without having to think 100 times about safety. I have taken the Dubai metro, I have ridden the public transport. Got a Nol card too, makes me feel so empowered. Ive gotten home back after 3 AM, with my brother/s. Nothing I can do in Hyderabad ever!

2. Batools loving the exposure to outside, we haven’t done anything specific for her yet, but she’s enjoying spontaneous outings with the family

3. 31st was great day, I got my much wanted casual outerwear from HnM. We went for a dinner and drive. Batool was taken care of by my mom. Also I have ruled out that I do not enjoy steak.

4. Dubai makes me think about moving here. But life isn’t up to me.

5. Watched Horrible Bosses 2 at VOX in the MOE  Highly recommend it. The movie is insane, and its the kind of comedy movies you can watch multiple times, cos the jokes and acting is all too good.

6.  I finally wore my new studded flats, I was too scared to wear them in Hyd.

6. My bros cam is great for selfies. Took this one at the union station

I shall be posting highlights all throughout my trip apart from my regular posts. Have a positive year everyone!

Keeping her busy/Toy recommendations

My daughter is going to start school this academic year, I am looking forward to her exploring life, and meeting a lot of little people her age. But until that starts, I still have a feImagew months to entertain her. Whilst I was browsing flipkart for some books I came across ‘buttons’ by Miniland Educational, I have been looking for something like this, something to work her hand eye coordination.

I got her all excited before the delivery, and she really did enjoy it. This is one of those toys that enables your child to coordinate their eye movements and hand movements simultaneously, it’s a great exercise for vision too, especially if your child has any visual problems.

Here are some quick specifications:

Company: Miniland educational toys

Price: Rs.299 (on 40% off offer) The offer is still on

No. of pieces: 40

For ages: 3 to 6 years

Purchased from: Flipkart

Quality: Excellent

contents: The box comes with a pamphlet of their other toys

ImageI have come across the beads and string, however I wanted something more interesting and versatile. And I am very happy with it. She likes it too.

What I liked most about this product is the quality of the strings, the string has aglets on it, usually these synthetic strings are difficult to maneuver into the hole because of their flimsy nature, especially for first timers. It’s a well thought after toy, also it came with cards that had patterns to copy. So once your child is used to the basic drawing of strings into the buttons, they can follow the patterns. This maintains the interest in the toy. Also the buttons are of four colours with varied numbers of holes, ranging from one to five holes. As a parent you can control the “difficulty” level too. My daughter for some reason found it insanely hilarious to draw strings through two holes!.

All in all this company has been a great find, maybe many of you have already discovered it, I am definitely looking forward to purchasing more such toys for my daughter.

This is also a great gift for someone, educational toys and books are always a great gift.

Tips: Let your child explore them on his/her own, let them make sense of the buttons and the strings. My daughter first organised them by colour as you can see in the picture above. You can learn a lot about your childs personality when you let them be and give them space to do what they want. Once they’ve acquainted themselves with all the contents, you can do a mini demonstration, and then let them try themselves, let them try 100 times if possible, don’t hold their hands, the whole aim is that the child does the coordinating. It requires a lot of patience, but trust me the feeling of achievement on the childs part is very important, you will enjoy his success, this builds self-esteem and confidence.

This company has great toys for kids who’re interested in science, I have browsed through some, it’s a fun way to keep your child interested in science or even build interest in it. You can check out more of their toys at Flipkart.
